室町末期となる戦国時代に、伊勢国司であり大名の北畠氏の本拠地に建てられた北畠神社。
神社境内にある総面積約850坪の北畠氏館跡庭園は、日本三大武将庭園といわれている三重県を代表する庭園。
室町幕府の管領であった、細川高国によって作庭されたと伝わる。

　中部地方の美しい日本庭園を訪ねる特集「庭～THE GARDEN」を毎月お届けします。中部では戦国武将や大名が手がけた歴史的な名園が時代を超えて受け継がれてきました。最近は日本の伝統文化を象徴する観光資源として訪日客にも人気です。記者が各地のお庭を訪ね、その魅力をお伝えしていきます。

Kitabatake Shrine was built in the Sengoku period towards the end of the Muromachi period, on the base of the Kitabatake clan, the feudal lord and governor of Ise.
The Kitabatake clan residence garden, which is located within the shrine grounds and covers a total area of ​​about 2,600m2, is one of the three great gardens of Japanese military commanders and is a representative garden of Mie prefecture.
It is said to have been created by Hosokawa Takakuni, the kanrei (regent) of the Muromachi shogunate.

In the Chubu region, historical gardens created by warlords and feudal lords of the Sengoku period have been passed down through the ages.
