By the late 1990s Saleen’s Mustang race cars were top of the pile in the Grand-Am GTO championship, and as Steve Saleen puts it, he felt like the firm had done all they could with the Ford Mustang. The story goes that after seeing McLaren’s F1 GTR Long Tail at Le Mans, he was inspired to take the fight to Europe’s best with an all American supercar bearing his own name. This is the story of the Saleen S7R.
