神龍八大龍王神社
Shinryu Hachidairyuou (Eight Great Dragon Kings) Shrine

Address: 643 Ryumon, Kikuchi-shi, Kumamoto Prefecture
*There are many Hachidairyuu shrines in the vicinity, so please make sure that the shrine has "Shinryu" attached when you head there.

Today's shrine is located in Kumamoto Prefecture. The name of the shrine is already full of dragon feeling. This is the fourth shrine on our Kyushu trip, and we are very excited to finally meet the Dragon God.

There is even a dragon gate dam and a dragon camp nearby, so there are dragons everywhere. The reason for this is apparently that the shape of the dam resembles a dragon. It is said that "male dragons" and "female dragons" used to live here.

The dragon gods are the deities of the eight great dragon king shrines, and are described on a stone monument as the supreme deities of the universe. This is a power spot known only to those in the know.

And since we are going to see the god of water, we will also visit another power spot nearby, a pothole created by a waterfall in Kikuchi Canyon.
