Based on what I've heard, Michael Giacchino had a monumental task when composing the score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; to score a new Star Wars movie, and have it sound like a Star Wars movie, but to not use too much of the existing scores, and all with only a month or two to work. I've heard a lot of mixed reactions regarding the final result, but I personally loved it. I think he did a good job emulating John Williams's style without sounding like a mere imitation. And I love the new themes as well; I think they are a worthy addition to the Star Wars music catalogue.
