Compound questions

The concept of compound questions is, asking 2 or more questions in the same question. For example: “What did you have for breakfast, and did you shower today?”
You are allowing the person you are asking the question to choose what to tell you.
In a simple conversation, this is innocent if you shower or eat breakfast, but in an interrogation or to discover a fraud or a crime, it can be detrimental to the process.

If you want to know if someone is cheating, stealing, or using drugs, compound questions can mislead you.
Why? Everyone has their own dictionary. Our dictionary is composed of: culture, work, place where you were raised, family values, and religion.
We tend to fill the gaps or construct the answer based on our own information.
How does this work? If I ask: “Did you know who was in the store yesterday before we closed, and do you know that we have money missing?” And the person answered “I don’t know”, what question is this person answering? Who was there, or that the money was missing?

Most people would say both, and in reality, you filled the gap.
Let me give you an example and the reason why I moved to the forest.
I was going for a coffee one evening in Chicago, and I was in line to get my order when I heard a couple talking to a man about an investment. Fast, I got it. This guy was trying to scam the couple, and they were making it really easy for this man to do it.
The woman asked “How much are we going to make and how much are we going to lose?”, so the guy said “only 10%”.
Now what question did he answer?
Guess what? I approached the couple when the guy went to the bathroom and said, “Please ask the question again. He is lying to you. Do you know how much you are losing?”. She said, “only 10%”............................REALLY???
When the guy came back from the bathroom, the husband asked the 2 questions separately, and guess what? They were going to lose 90% and make only 10%.
So the next time you need an answer, do not ask compound questions, don’t rush the process because you can be cheated, scammed, or about to lose more than you think.
