Marcus Aurelius (121–180 AD) was a Roman Emperor and a Stoic philosopher, reigning from 161 AD until his death. Born into a wealthy and politically connected family, Aurelius was adopted by Emperor Antoninus Pius, following the wishes of his predecessor, Hadrian. As emperor, Marcus Aurelius is remembered for his philosophical pursuits and the work "Meditations," a series of personal writings that reflect his Stoic beliefs. These writings emphasize virtue, reason, and self-control, offering guidance on how to live a good life and maintain inner peace amidst external chaos.
