Michael Weeks received a B.E.S. and M. Eng. in Engineering Math and Computer Science from the University of Louisville. He then studied at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, graduating with an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering. He is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Georgia State University. He has authored many publications in conferences and journals, and four books.
His research interests are in gaming, AI/machine learning, simulation, and to a lesser extent, application of digital signal processing techniques. His recent work examined AI controlled non-playing characters (NPCs) in games, including using neuroevolution to adapt the weight sets of the neural networks that control NPCs. Potential problems to examine are overcoming the sparsity of rewards in AI training, and adversarial AI evaluation.

Welcome to our latest video! Today, we are excited to have Professor Michael Weeks from Georgia State University with us to discuss his fascinating research in artificial intelligence, specifically within the gaming industry.

In this interview, Professor Weeks shares his current work on AI in gaming, focusing on creating autonomous agents that can act naturally within game environments. He explains the challenges of training neural networks for gaming without predefined data and the innovative methods he is exploring to address these issues.

Discover how Professor Weeks' passion for gaming, including favorites like Skyrim and the Zelda series, inspires his research. Learn about the surprising findings from his experiments, such as the role of random data in solving neural network problems, and the real-world applications of his work in AI training.

Join us as we delve into the intricacies of AI in gaming, the challenges faced during research, and the exciting future directions of Professor Weeks' work. Whether you're a gaming enthusiast, an AI researcher, or simply curious about the intersection of AI and gaming, this video is a must-watch.
