昨天，靴子落地，2023年被抓的原中共新疆生产建设兵团书记、政委韩勇被一审宣判死刑缓期两年执行。很重呀，出不去了，这意味着，他会被活活折磨死在监狱里。这也是中共自建政以来，自有生产建设兵团制度以来，首个被判处死刑的兵团书记、政委。韩勇可不简单，他是吉林大学法律系77级的。我简单提几个名字，就以他的同学圈为例：贺卫方、北京大学法学院教授、知名法学家；2. 张文显 原吉林大学校长，中国法学会副会长，全国人大常委会法工委副主任；3、孟建柱 前中共中央政治局委员、中央政法委书记；4、张军 身份：中国最高人民法院原院长、原最高人民检察院检察长。韩勇呢，41岁的正厅级、48岁的副省，新疆自治区党委常委；49岁的正省，成为封疆大吏，担任新疆生产建设兵团的党委书记、政委。而在他50岁这一年，也就是2016年初，根正苗红的韩勇因为镇压新疆起义维吾尔人不力而被免职并调任陕西省政协担任主席，提前退休。这一点体现在中纪委对他的处理通告中的 “不敢担当斗争”罪。要知道这可是共产党历史上的第一例。
Crackdown on Uprising Uyghurs Ineffective｜Xinjiang Corps Secretary Han Yong Sentenced to Death

Yesterday, the hammer fell. Han Yong, former Secretary and Political Commissar of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, who was arrested in 2023, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in the first-instance trial. This is a heavy sentence, effectively a life sentence—it means he will be tortured to death in prison. This also marks the first time since the founding of the PRC and the establishment of the Corps system that a Corps Secretary and Political Commissar has been sentenced to death.

Han Yong was no ordinary figure. He was from the class of 1977 in the Law Department of Jilin University. Just to name a few from his circle of classmates: He Weifang, professor at Peking University Law School and renowned legal scholar; Zhang Wenxian, former president of Jilin University, vice president of the China Law Society, and deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee; Meng Jianzhu, former member of the CCP Politburo and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission; Zhang Jun, former president of China’s Supreme People’s Court and former Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

As for Han Yong himself: at age 41, he held a bureau-level post; at 48, a deputy provincial position; at 49, he was promoted to a full provincial rank, becoming a key regional official as Secretary and Political Commissar of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. But in 2016, at the age of 50, Han Yong—despite his “red roots”—was dismissed and transferred to serve as Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference, effectively retired early. The reason: ineffective suppression of the Uyghur uprising in Xinjiang. This is reflected in the official disciplinary notice from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, citing his “failure to dare to take up the struggle”—a charge unprecedented in the history of the Communist Party.
