I have some new merch! I’m currently wearing the JWST planets shirt - little JWST mirror logo on the front, but the gas giant planets of the solar system as seen by JWST on the back and they’re to scale with each other as well which I love. We’ve also got this one celebrating the most iconic space telescopes of the past few decades from Hubble to Planck to the recently retired Gaia mission. Euclid also makes an appearance on there, and without fail whenever I make a video about Euclid so many of you will leave a comment saying “here’s looking at Euclid” riffing off the famous line in Casablanca "Here's looking at you, kid" - so obviously I had to put that on a shirt as well - I love this one because we also have some euclidean geometry space in the background as well for the super nerds out there. 👩🏽‍💻 I'm Dr. Becky Smethurst, an astrophysicist at the University of Oxford (Christ Church). I love making videos about science with an unnatural level of enthusiasm. I like to focus on how we know things, not just what we know. And especially, the things we still don't know. My day job is to do research into how supermassive black holes can affect the galaxies that they live in. In particular, I look at whether the energy output from the disk of material orbiting around a growing supermassive black hole can stop a galaxy from forming stars.
