Uonuma City in the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture is less than three hours from the Tokyo metropolitan area by expressway, easily accessible by Shinkansen bullet train, and busy with skiing and other activities in winter. I had never been down there before because it is a relay point for Niigata City and Nagaoka City, but on my first visit, I was surprised to see the vast wilderness and many rice paddies! I was impressed by the delicious gourmet food and spectacular scenery nurtured by the vast wilderness where the good old days of Japan still remain! Compared to Nagaoka and Niigata City, there is certainly nothing here, but those who want to enjoy this nothingness should definitely visit.

JR Urasa Station

We visited Urasa Station, which is the smallest station on the line and less than 1/100th the size of Tokyo Station, because of its popularity as an abandoned station.
It was indeed bleak, but there were passengers and a well-stocked tourist center.
To be honest, Annaka Haruna Station in Tesutoku's hometown is more desolate.

Kakuei Tanaka Bronze Statue

Located next to Urasa Station.
It is a bronze statue of Kakuei Tanaka, the current Taikoh of Japan, who is still very popular.
Hats off to him for creating the strength of modern Japan from the turbulent postwar period.
