Experience Aviation History: Vulcan XL426 at Southend Airport

Step into the world of Cold War aviation with the Vulcan Restoration Trust’s Avro Vulcan B2 XL426, a legendary strategic bomber preserved in taxiable condition at London Southend Airport.

About XL426:
• First Flight: August 23, 1962
• RAF Service: 1962–1986, including roles with No. 83, 50, and 617 Squadrons
• Notable Achievements: Participated in the 1982 Falklands Victory Flypast over London; served as the RAF’s Vulcan Display Flight aircraft from 1984 to 1986
• Final Flight: December 19, 1986, landing at Southend Airport

Preservation Efforts:
Since 1993, the Vulcan Restoration Trust (VRT) has dedicated itself to maintaining XL426 in ground-running condition. This makes it one of only three Vulcans worldwide capable of taxiing under its own power.

Visit the Vulcan:
The VRT hosts regular “Visit the Vulcan” days, offering enthusiasts a chance to:
• Explore the aircraft up close
• Participate in guided cockpit tours
• Witness live taxi runs
• Enjoy displays of classic cars and vintage military vehicles
• Purchase Vulcan-themed memorabilia

These events provide a unique opportunity to connect with a pivotal piece of aviation history and support its ongoing preservation.

Support the Trust:
As a registered charity, the VRT relies on public support to continue its mission. Donations and event proceeds contribute directly to the upkeep of XL426, ensuring future generations can experience this iconic aircraft.
