LELAND SHARED STREET: Lincoln Square to Cricket Hill [4K]

June 6, 2021 - To facilitate social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, many cities around the world began implementing so-called “shared streets” to increase space for active transportation. This effort involved either closing streets entirely to motor traffic or adding temporary traffic calming measures to slow vehicles, giving priority to walking, running, and cycling. While Chicago was much slower to implement shared streets than many peer cities, the Chicago Department of Transportation eventually rolled out 14 shared streets across the city between May and November of 2020. The shared streets, which were unfortunately all removed during the winter months, have started to make a comeback this summer. I cycled from Lincoln Square to Cricket Hill near the lakefront along the resurrected Leland Shared Street.
